Liners

Cloth nappies require a liner, either disposable or reusable. They allow the wetness to pass through to the nappy, helping to keep baby dry, but they retain the solids to prevent the nappy from getting soiled.

Most liners are biodegradable, and can be placed in the bin if wet, or down the loo with any solids. This means that when you are storing your dirty nappies in a bucket, then there is less mess. Some liners can be washed if they are only wet. You can cut the liners in half when using them on a smaller baby.

Reusable liners are generally polyester fabric, or fleece that holds the poo away from the nappy, and lets wetness through, so that baby's skin is kept drier. Polyester fleece is particularly good at keeping the skin drier. Silk liners are also reusable, but they don't keep the skin drier. Silk can be used for nappy rash.
