About Me - How I got in to using real nappies.

I am a mum from Dunfermline. I had our first daughter, Isla, in July 2005. When I was pregnant with her I had decided that we would use disposable nappies. I thought that the only alternative was terries, and I did not fancy boiling nappies, folding terry squares and using sharp safety pins on our baby. We went to the baby show in Glasgow in 2005 and we were very impressed with the different types of real cloth nappies that were available. We then discovered how easy cloth nappies are.

We bought a set of birth to potty nappies and kit for less than £300. There is very little work involved, I store the wet/dirty nappies in a bucket and put them in the wash every other, or every third day. I then hang them on the clothes horse or outside.

We have been using cloth nappies on her since she was about 2 months old, and we’ve never looked back. They have paid for themselves already. She potty trained earlier than her friends - just after her second birthday, they say cloth nappies help with potty training.

Why I became a real nappy advisor.

I decided to become a real nappy advisor so that I could help introduce mums and dads in my area to cloth. If it had not been for us seeing the different types of nappies being demonstrated at the baby show then we would have given reusable nappies a second thought. I am the Scottish Manager for Lollipop and also am part of the National Baby Show Team.

We had our second daughter, Eilidh, in February 2008 and she has been in cloth since she was born. We are using Isla's old nappies which still look brand new, plus a few of the latest nappies all in the name of research!
